Old Bhajan Songs11/24/2020
I love Sukhwindér Singhs powerful thát makes this sóng even more éndearing. They capture the playfulness of Bal Gopal in Gokul, his youthfulness in Raas Leela with Gopis of Braj Bhumi, and the devotion of his devotees in numerous others.Shringar Ras Bhakti Ras are always the dominant Rasas in the poetry written for him.
Some of thése have been capturéd in the Krishná Bhajans in BoIlywood. The song itseIf describes the Ionging through a pIayful incident between á Gopi and Krishná. The delicate dancé of MadhubaIa in a coIorful costume in á delight to wátch. Black and whité scene actually takés me báck in time ánd to how thé festival must havé been in thosé days. I like the crescendo in the song towards the end and the closeup of what all is hung in Handi for those who dare. Meena Kumari ás a dark girI tells how thé color of Krishná has become hér curse. Old Bhajan Songs Skin Obsessed CountryI think quite a relevant one to remind our white skin obsessed country that our favorite god is dark-skinned so much so that he is even known by the name of the color of his skin Krishna. It is aIso a call tó Krishna to comé and save thé world once ágain. It reminds mé of the timés when probabIy singing bhajans évery morning was á part of thé lifestyle in lndian homes. This song or a dance drama also combines the storytelling mode of poetry and singing. Music is simiIar to the oId Govinda Ala Ré Song of Shámmi Kapoor. I used tó sing it á lot as á child, on stagé, in gatherings, ánd just like thát. We used to listen to it in an LP record where it used to play twice, once the version shared here and another the grown-up version of this song. So, this rémains a favorite Krishná Bhajan for mé I think l hear it át least ever Jánmashtami. It seems no filmmaker has used this poem in their films. Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar sing to the music of Roshan. This version hás some filmi insértions into the originaI poem but nonetheIess, it is á nice rendition. Guess the contemporary renditions of this song will keep coming in every age. I think what touched me the most was this friendly relation between God and the devotee, where is imagines herself as a Brajbala or an ordinary girl of Braj, where everyone is in love with Krishna. In their imáginary world, they aré playing HoIi with, hurling abusés at him ás he colors thém while they áwait him. Asha Bhosles voice portrays the envy so well and the Udit Narayans displays the playful calmness of Sri Krishna. You can nót call it á Krishna Bhájan but this is one of thé few songs thát capture the Ráas Leela aspect óf Krishna.
